The message should not be that political violence is bad because it targeted a good guy who was “practicing politics the right way” (which Kirk definitely was not). Political violence is bad because it inherently corrodes the democratic polity, because it makes democracy impossible.

Yeah, people tend to see sex as the greatest *emotional* intimacy you can achieve, not just physical. I don't think it is, but I wonder if - are people afraid that in swearing off sexual relationships, they would give up the chance to be known?

Love this, and feels very Emmaus Road-y: ‘He bless’d the bread, but vanish’d at the word’ (William Cowper). Guest becomes host, there’s the gift of presence in absence, and everyday action with a piece of bread becomes part of God’s handiwork of creation and its restoration, etc.
