I get the convenience of digital. For stuff like Picross, digital's fine. But when one's dropping north of fifty bucks, it's nice to have a bookshelf full of your library. Much more impressive than waving around your dinged-up Switch, "This baby's loaded to the gunnels with Nintendo history! Hooah!"

Losing consumer-level visibility should erode brand power. I'd imagine impulse buying would be lost, especially among older folks looking for gift ideas. It just wouldn't feel the same either, receiving a game as a packaged gift you can hold and admire as opposed to a link you can click to download.

Another thing about ditching physical game formats, I wonder what it'll do to brand visibility at the retail level. Seems to me going exclusively digital will inevitably reduce visibility on store shelves. Might be okay for gamers themselves, but what about older folks who buy games as gifts?

For sure. I've been lucky at avoiding norovirus outbreaks. I'm not trying to correlate vomiting with people's lifestyle choices or anything like that.

I see there's yet another round of spittle-flying debate on physical and digital software. All I've got to say is that I like having a shelf full of games. I'm no collector but it's fun to have something visitors can see and perhaps chat over. And hey, try selling Earthbound digitally.
