i think it has to be deliberate and toward a goal (eg i took typing and am extremely grateful); right now so much is just dumped into platforms, which mostly suck

That makes sense, though I also suspect that nearly all kids are getting -plenty- of screen time elsewhere, and/or that vocationally oriented thinking about it could wait until HS. Class (as always in US ed) may mean some kids don’t, though, I don’t know. (And I’m neither a teacher nor a parent.)
