The auto industry most definitely does NOT do this. At least not in the US If it did our highways would not be dominated by enormous dangerous trucks and SUVs that can go double the speed limit and that cause untold levels of respiratory disease through emissions.

Had Waymo spent a decade or so letting their AI play before trying to drive, they may have avoided a recall for driving directly into a utility pole their robot recognized but the geniuses at Waymo hadn't thought to teach it was too hard to drive through. They've driven into more poles post-recall.
