The #N6GCRR creates a kind of double jeopardy for public transport. Until it's built, most political capital flows towards completing the road. Once the RR is built, political capital will flow from it, towards the business-as-usual model of economic growth based on private car ownership.

Food for thought for those wanting to introduce species to Britain (Bison, storks) or Ireland (Beavers) and justify it through these animals being native on nearby land mass so have 'evolved with the ecosystem'. Biodiversity means some places are different, like islands, with a different balance.
