You can get dementia at any age, BUT this is why I'm a tad ageist regarding people in politics. How long was she voting and participating in government while dealing with dementia? How long did those around her know while letting her continue? You shouldn't drive a car w/ dementia but you can govern

It's far easier to abuse or mislead someone dealing with dementia. These older politicians are vulnerable. How is making her get on stage and do an event while suffering from dementia not elder abuse? Not telling people she was in a home should result in some punishment or reprimand.

I sincerely think there needs to be some sort of protocol put in place with politicians who show signs of mental deterioration or who disappear for months on end without being on formal leave. This is especially true for older politicians. It's bad for their constituents and it's bad for them.
