I got into it via the fan translations and also quite liked Tunnels & Trolls, so it's such a disappointment that we're not going to get an authentic release thanks to D&D brain.

I'm guessing it's similar to how a lot of people think he was inspired by World Of Darkness due to some admittedly eerie similarities in worldbuilding despite him citing Dungeons & Dragons and Tunnels & Trolls as his TTRPG influences lol

There were a lot of different "old schools," including ridiculous power gaming. They weren't all schools of D&D either. 15 months after D&D came Tunnels & Trolls, and dozens more followed just in the 1970s. The 80s saw designers start really figuring out how to move away from D&D's formula.
