IMO, Series 1 doesn't get a lot of love because Prince Edmund isn't the same snarky mastermind he is in the 2-4. If you're like me, and got your start on the later series', it can be hard to shake that feeling that you're not watching the same character.

Also, you've got "Scene Stealers" (looking at your Lords of Adders Black) in each episode but you could argue that Blessed has such an incredible presence, he was a series stealer in Blackadder I.

While not the best of the entire catalogue, Series 1 has The Black Seal, The Queen of Spain's Beard, The Witchsmeller Persuivant, The Archbishop, all comedy gold.
