Check out this great new paper by my PhD student, Steve Hernandez: “Non-Literal Speech as Committing to the Bit.” He shows how non-literal speech invites more non-literal speech, and posits a secondary common ground (the “common playground”) to explain how this works. philpapers.org/rec/HERNSA-3

Working on a lecture I'll be giving with my doctoral student on the 27th, as part of a lecture series on language awareness. We'll be talking about skaldic poetry as a linguistic puzzle and a way for sagas to reflect on and play with language but oof writing a short intro to skaldic verse is HARD.
