As one gardener to another I cannot recommend Thars ointment enough. It draws the splinter out and stops infection - a tin literally lasts a lifetime (I inherited my grand dads) and it's very good stuff Can also be used in cuts and abrasions

a fun thing to do is to shred a load of brambles and then wait until the next day to find out which holes in your hands still really hurt & thus need digging at with a scalpel to release the little tiny bits of thorn. related: I need new gardening gloves
