Also having done a production adjacent gig in LA, nothing straightens your planning out like no-room-for-debate overtime rates and regs. You need to shoot fourteen hours? That’s fine, here’s what it will cost. Still sound good? Puts pressure back on management / leadership.
Show PostRight that’s the thing. The model absolutely makes sense for modern development. But you need trade guilds /unions and carried benefits to make the model work for the people actually doing all that work.
Show PostIf game studios are shifting to the Hollywood model, game workers are going to have to shift more quickly to the union model in order to survive.
Show PostI understand what you're talking about. It's being upfront instead of being lied, which is a step in the right direction. Companies in-between pay less as average as seen in other industries However, the Hollywood model is not a good one either, mind you, VFX studios are a big example of that...
Show Postwell, the article is just CEO words. "We chose to kept the core team small instead of grow and shrink". Sure, pretty words, but still is the same point - you contract ppl outsourcing one-and-done with low pay and no hope of continuing. "Co-development" so they don't get benefits either. Bad.
