The snake pit in Raiders of the Lost Ark is mostly a legless lizard pit. All of these guys are Pseudopus apodus.

Yup. Reminds me of when I planned to teach about the Carboniferous Period in my 'Evolution of the Earth' class, & projector in the classroom stopped working. Grabbed a pen, then lectured, wrote, & drew on the whiteboard for rest of class. Said to my students, "Good thing I know stuff."

Flysch cliffs, Zumaia, one of the most amazing geological formations I've seen. These vertical layers run for 8 kilometres along Basque coast, each a page, forming a book covering 60 million years of our planet's history. Created when Iberia crashed into Europe and things went all squishy.
