I said somewhere that I'm sad we'll likely never get a new Mass Effect game and someone was like "but what about Exodus?" Yes, I'm sure it'll be good. But it's fascinating how some people engage with art in the way of "if I can have something vaguely similar, it's basically the same thing, right?"

That if the setting is similar you can just swap it right out and have it be like the thing you deeply loved and spent hundreds of hours with never vanished. That's not how it works though. ME is such a vast universe packed with lore, places, characters and stories we'll likely never see again.

I feel like if you take the art seriously and engage with it on an emotional level instead of simply seeing it as "content", you can't simply replace something like that. Will there be new cool things *like* ME? Sure. But they will never quite have the same meaning that ME has to me and many others.

The same applies to Dragon Age of course. BioWare has built worlds, created characters and told stories that cannot be replaced by "another thing that's kinda like it". It makes me profoundly sad that these worlds and ideas will now simply molder on a server somewhere and never get explored again.
