A German immigrant, who arrived penniless and with litle English who rose to the top of his profession and tried to be more English than the English. An acetic man who had a profound love of beauty. His letters with Stieler
Show Postare preserved in the Swedish railway museum and show a close, intimate, breathless relationship 1855-1858, which picks up again in the 1860s but fizzles out. Stieler was a promising Swedish engineer but his career was cut short due to very likely being gay.
