All 6 recommendations McNutt made (see quoted thread above) are ridiculously old and she offers such little insight, I wonder how much work she actually put into this. These recommendations were old when I started in science policy in *2012* reading reports on improving academic research. 2/

From 1998 to 2018, the NASEM published at least half a dozen reports on improving grad student/postdoc training. That’s one every three years. And today McNutt suggested…the same warmed-over recommendations made time and again from these reports. 3/

On the issue of academic interactions with industry, the *NASEM* set up the Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable in 19-freakin-84 to foster closer connections among all three. And today McNutt recommends…fostering closer collaboration. 🤦‍♂️ 4/

Not only did McNutt fail to staunchly defend the research enterprise, she papered over her failure by giving a speech that recycled stale ideas. She said less than nothing. She wasted our time talking about issues that have been discussed ad nauseam and she provided little insight 5/
