A simple case in point - an ex-politician who has started a lobbying firm writing op-eds about areas they may being paid to actively try to influence public opinion in is the reddest of red flags, and the conflict of interest is almost never presented to the reader - can you guess why?
Show PostIrish media has long had a serious problem with lobbyists posing as columnists and panel-show guests without informing the audience of who is paying to call their tune. If you want to get a paid-for opinion into a newspaper, buy an ad.
