My hope is AI-dev'd clone games will also hit a similar point and the economics will weed them out. The low barrier to entry on Steam, etc. offers bigger incentives to try right now compared to doujins, but as cheap compute increasingly dries up, so too will these opportunists, I'd like to think. 😮‍💨

If you go to the major doujin shops over here, you'll find a very small handful of (still eyebrow-raising) books about using AI in art workflows and whatnot. But it's otherwise still business as usual and it's simply because it's way too much effort for far too little return if done with AI.

Namely, doujins don't make for quick, easy money. In the vast majority of cases, people do it expecting to lose money or, at best, break even between the time and labor required to produce it, as well as the cost of actually publishing them. Very, very few artists make a living off of them.

It's cold comfort to any devs dealing with it in the here and now, but this does already have precedent: doujinshi. In Japan there were concerns early on that the scene would be flooded with AI releases, but that pretty much hasn't been the case from what I've observed for these exact reasons.
