Nearly home from Shetland & Fair Isle. Highlights: the excellent Obs, great staff, ethos & culture. Superb. Never say no to a BBRC find so Rustic Bunting was A-OK. Lowlight: I’m not even going mention it. At least I’ve had awesome views across SE Asia. Bunting cut courtesy of Steve Arlow.

Spent my last day in East Sussex walking up, down & around the Cuckmere River meanders. Lots of birds: Redshanks, Bar-tailed godwits, Brent geese, etc. The stars, though, were this pair of Ruff. Don't think I've seen male & female together before & hadn't appreciated the size difference.

A big splash of colour at Tresta today with this beautiful first-winter Golden Oriole offering lovely views. Golden 'O's are scarce migrants to Shetland with the vast majority of records in spring and only a handful of records in October. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds #UKWildlife
