our society is so reactionary and conservative so it makes sense to see people feel comfort in a community where everyone who is abused by the patriarchy can express themselves in a way that was a middle finger to cishetnormative values.

it gets even more complicated wanting to be a black alt kid because you get stares from both sides of your and the other community. getting back to goth being commodified, it's just rly sad to see people just, treat it like a fun trend when this was a way of expressing freedom from the patriarchy

I miss when regular people were so terrified of goths and alt people I genuinely remember growing up and seeing how demonized the subculture(s) was cuz it was outside of a conservative worldview. for women mainly, it was a way of expression. to see it watered down to "goth mommy" is kinda sad.
