i contrast this with tolkien's middle earth. when things are good conflict does not exist in the shire!

both of these guys served in the military and saw combat but (armchair diagnosis) i think lewis does more mental separation with medieval combat in that its allowed to be part of the fun escapist adventure aspect. while tolkien always seems wearied by the concept

one other thing im really interested in is that narnia never really seems to experience Peace even during their golden ages. Peter at the height of his reign seems to be constantly embattled with forces from the north (plus rival nations from the south). caspian has this line too
