The hiccup is that a lot of AirBnBs are *excessive* about what constitutes as cleaning and the owners have really insane ideas of what counts as "messy". The last time my parents used one, the owner tried to tack on an extra fee for not mowing the lawn (seriously) and leaving a chair out of place.

Anything the tech bros create they subsequently enshittify. AirBnB went from a way for folks to make some money off their spare bedrooms to a huge property scame raising rents in desirable cities.

There are a ton of fees tacked onto AirBNB rentals (in the US at least) that often make it less economical than a hotel, these days. Like paying a cleaning fee then being asked to clean it yourself. The point is that it used to be a decent option but has become less and less so.

Last time I needed an airbnb, i specifically booked one that advertised "hey, when you leave, you leave. No cleaning or tidying up needed. Just don't break things." I would book with them again.

Pay a $100 cleaning fee and then get asked to deep clean before you leave. Absurd
