This is why I have trust issues with Blender's material preview mode. First pic is the material preview. Second is an EEVEE render. Third is a Cycles render. The project was made for Cycles so I understand why EEVEE struggles here... but the material preview is very wrong.

Here is another example. The cube on the left is glass. The cube on the right is a perfectly polished mirror. The material preview on the left side shows both of these cubes as being essentially the same. The Cycles render preview on the right side shows two distinct cubes.
