My new book, Co-Existence, is out today. It is a guide to how to live and work in a world where AI is sometimes, but not always, better than you. (And, for the release, I worked with Opus 5.5 to make a quite interesting experience for the book's new website: co-existence.ai)
Show PostOne of the frame I use for thinking about the AI use is automate, alter, extend where we can see the tech doing one of the three. Automate is giving the thing over to AI (mega party). Alter means AI may show us a way to change the thing that keeps it human. Extend is using the tech in a way that
Show Postgenuinely extends the human capacity while keeping human agency and control central. The scavenger hunt is a perfect example of extend. But what the AI companies are selling us is almost always automate.
Show Post"Agency: Experiment, explore, and discover what AI can do." Alternatively, read, write, experiment explore and learn the difference between what AI can do, and what it should do based on your specific goals and desires as a unique human intelligence in the world.
Show Post"Taste: Separate the exceptional from the slop." Read, have opinions about what you read in terms of meaning, style, and everything else. Write those ideas down and share them with others and see what they think when exposed to the same things. Learn to articulate your taste and what matters to you.
