Lewis apologists try to do the “oh her sexuality isnt what he’s talking about” but the text does not support this well
Show PostThe Problem of Susan works much better if you just read the first 70 percent or so and skip the bit where his response to Lewis’ discomfort with adolescent sexuality is to sexualize *everything*
Show PostI read it for the first time a few days ago. A Neil Gaiman story about someone thought trustworthy being revealed as a dangerous predator hits very differently now, I suspect.
Show PostI dunno, I think you COULD write an anti-Lewis Problem of Susan fic and have it be quite convincing but I always thought that Gaiman’s take was creepy, and not in the good way.
Show PostPossibly. One of the pieces that I rethought the most after the allegations against Neil Gaiman came to light was The Problem of Susan. And I think Lewis likely wasn't intending to denigrate adult femininity, but his issues seeing women as equals shaped how he frames what he sees as her failing.
