BTW - I don't in any way want to imply that this survey methodology is valid, let alone robust. I would assume not. But it remains true that ordinary people don't understand basic shit about the world, the economy, etc, and lack the basic intellectual tools to evaluate them.

Well, to be clear... I was criticizing both. The US hasn't had 5% GDP growth in what? a half century?—not since the postwar boom. And GDP numbers don't bounce around that much—it's a big economy. Anyone who guesses the US will have e.g. 10% GDP growth isn't familiar with US GDP numbers.

17% GDP growth for the US's $30 trillion economy is serious <I'm gonna build a colony on Mars within the decade> shit. No serious person could believe that. Our population is almost entirely incapable of basic rational thinking and analysis. So is our stock market (i.e. Republicans).
