It's so important to nip the framing of this reporting in the bud right now. Don't accept the narrative that Trump and his team only just started discussing invoking the Insurrection Act. January 6 happened because his White House was in conversation with radicals about what it'd take to invoke it.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.
