And being so mindful about it (and about trying to communicate to y'all when we have made a tradeoff and what the risk scenarios are) has definitely meant people are more willing to believe that the tradeoff we made really is the best feasible solution.

The two things we try really really fucking hard not to accept "good enough" on are user privacy/security and accessibility. Sometimes we do have to make tradeoffs, but we work our asses off to make sure they're *consciously chosen* tradeoffs!

--there were way too many situations where it could have leaked that nonpublic info existed (not leak the info, but leak that the info existed, ie let a viewer know about former renames or that two accounts might belong to the same person), and too many possible disasters
