It isn't about affording it. The memo announcing the cuts says "Our business is strong and growing, and we remain on track to deliver our full-year forecast." About 1,000 people are being let go by a company telling them it's doing fine.

I hear ya on the Holmes thing, but let's not oversell the Cabrera situation. Caissie was our top prospect at the time, but he had obvious warts (probably why Cabrera was the best we could get for him), and he was quite bad this year. That ended up being a pretty even Trade. Shit for both clubs.
