ジャン＝ウジェーヌ・ビュラン（フランス、1852〜1926）『物乞いの布施』（1880年） 純白の装束に身を包んだ若い修道女にみすぼらしく足の悪い物乞いが歩み寄る。 女性は物乞いに目もくれず遠くを見つめているが、老人の手には硬貨が握られている。 おそらく最後の一枚であろうなけなしの硬貨をお布施として差し出す老人の姿は、貧しくとも揺るがない深い信仰心を物語っている。
