They may think they're not nazis but it's not a deal breaker that many in the party openly express nazi views. They go along with it because it supports their own personal bigotry. If they're not condemning it, they're condoning it and that means they are just as nazi as the ones saying it out loud.

I recognise a lot of me in that story, although I was never hospitalized, I left home at 16 because they couldn't cope. For me it took an abusive relationship, depression and an attempt to step in front of a train to get mental help, which resulted in an ADHD and Asperger diagnosis. Age 53.
