tl;dr edmund saw a hissing, feral cat and decided to take that thing home with him, whether kit wanted to come with him or not. (kit wanted to) (he wont admit it tho)

edmund is a nice, polite boy who was media-trained since childhood, and so he smiles a lot. he is a very respectable young man. kit, meanwhile, grew up in the trash. very grouchy. will probably call u a cunt. despite this, kit is the one who knows all of the noble's names (he stole from them)

both were orphaned at a young age; edmund, due to his magical talents, is adopted by an immortal sorcerer (who has a long history of adopting kids) and effectively raised to be the chosen one. kit, meanwhile, is also talented, but he grew up in an orphanage until he runs away with a rogue sorcerer

their story is set in a fantasy 1800s england vibe, where for a thousand or so years demons have been creeping up thru the cracks in the world, but a child born under the red star is destined to destroy the demon king for good. maybe. ofc, both kit & ed were born under the red star 🥰
