Being on a search committee is eye opening in many ways but my #1 impression is that so many people are sooo incredible. It makes me want to work harder, cuz wow I don't deserve my job any more than anyone else

but that's the END goal. That's not 'training', that's 'living'. And college is a very special time where you get to do that and join in on a multi-threaded conversation that's been unfolding over hundreds and sometimes thousands of years. It just bums me out that this is reduced to 'training'
