About half of it is explained by that. The other half is explained decreased coupling in general, i.e. fewer marriages and also more divorces. Interestingly, in the US at least, marriage rates among college educated folks have been stable, so they're also having the most kids.

While yes this is true kids have more rights now then back then. its wrong to say we made any acutal progress on that if anything we have heading towards a massive regression considering how kids now can't any concept of privacy or self determination in regurading to stuff like education for example

That's probably the case if you're a woman, but my dad nearly flunked out of highschool because he spent his days doing odd jobs at a nearby airfield in order to bum free flight time on a glider plane, so I don't know if he was missing out because the internet didn't exist yet
