A person with a JD is a person with a JD. A person with a license to practice law is a lawyer/attorney. I don’t know where the NYT got this idea. Perhaps another century, or a different country. Or maybe there is some jurisdiction in the US where a lawyer is someone with a JD? But where. WHERE.

I know a few people that graduated from law school that did not pass the bar and they would NEVER refer to themselves as lawyers. Because “technically “ they are not and because they have some integrity.
