For their generation, explaining why someone TO YOUR RIGHT is trying to force you to reply from within their bad-faith frame is out of bounds because the answer is usually bigotry or venality and it breaks a sort of bipartisan gentleman’s agreement to say so, even if it indisputably true.

I think El-Sayed rankles the likes of Brooks and Axelrod so much because he’s mastered the Kirby Frame. For guys accustomed to shaping opinion by manipulating political rivals into discussing issues from within a disadvantageous frame, it feels like cheating or at least bad sportsmanship.
