Because while payment processing issues exist across other creative industries too, having a wider range of retailers means there's a greater chance of someone saying 'hey, yeah, i'm willing to take this risk and sell this.'

Marketplace asymmetry exists in every creative industry, for sure. Getting a movie or album into a big box store always meant it would move more units than if it was only carried by niche retailers. But asymmetry like *this* seems unique, and only makes the ongoing payment processor issues worse.

One of the many things worth thinking about re: Steam's ban on Horses is how it highlights is the centralization problem caused by having such a monolithic (and maybe mono-something-else) retail giant. Independent studios with even humble commercial aspirations are chained to Valve's whims.
