Oh: the Times paid attention to the CSU... just to examine our Chancellor's spending $17m to make us an "AI-powered university." The reporting shows some faculty are embracing it like Kool-Aid drunkards, but big ups to Jeremy Murray of CSUSB History✊ #GiftArticle www.nytimes.com/2026/06/01/m...
Show Post& ...on what can Marx tell us today? I *literally* do Salon Day in my intellectual history class. First students LEARN TO READ TEXTS... then they TALK together about how these ideas are relevant now. They speculate on what the authors might say about 2026! But no, we need a bot to tell us! 🙃
Show PostOne uber-depressing thing in the article is seeing lecturers or untenured faculty feeling that they *have* to use AI. We've fought on my campus so far so no one can *force you*. As a full prof, I've 100% used being tenured to ask hard questions & make sure policies don't assume we want to use it!!
Show PostAlso..."in mid-May" *literally means late on a Friday night after graduation & the semester ended.* They waited to tell us... til we were all gone and not gathering together. AND they didn't say how many million $$$ they were throwing away this time. We're learning that now from the Times.
Show PostAnd it's funny cuz I was just reading parts of an oral history of an *actual CPUSA member* & mom. My girl did NOT regard Marxist theory as dogma or ask a bot to explain Marx - she used *her own life* to understand what parts of party doctrine *resonated* & she worked in the party on that basis.
