Does the war go against any and all liberal ideals of international law? Yes. Is it a high risk that could substantially backfire? Yes. Are the justification for starting this war suspect? Yes. But... I really fucking hate the Iranian regime.

I think those three arguments are cited most often by people who's hatred of the trump regime exceeds their hatred of the Islamic Republic. Personally I'm not sure why I can't hate both and be happy while watching one burn the other to the ground while suffering a high political cost for doing it.

I'd be absolutely thrilled to see both the end of the Iranian regime and a blue wave in November. Seeing Platner's campaign crash and burn would suit me just fine, too.

It's clear US leadership thought that one swift kick would bring the whole thing down, and that a mass movement would form with bombs falling all around it. Magical thinking. This war comes with all the costs in blood, treasure, death, and moral injury without any real plan to remove the regime.
