Teaching ETA Hoffmann's "The Golden Pot" tomorrow, and I hadn't realized that Friedrich Nicolai, the "Proctophantasmiac" from Goethe's "Faust I" who put leeches on his butt, shows up there too. Taught Faust last year, and yay, another pretext to talk about anal leeches. A gift to myself. #LitWiss

Zum Calanda fällt mir eine Anekdote meiner Oma ein. Sie reiste im Zug durch Graubünden, als ein deutscher Tourist sie fragte, ob sie den Namen jenes Berges wüsste. "Ja goppel au" (ja gewiss doch!), sagte sie. Darauf er: "O du wunderschöner Goppelau!"
