HR held 1000 individual consultation meetings and received over 5000 emails with questions from staff. We still don't have answers to most of these. UCU was allowed four collective consultation meetings. But the VC didn't turn up to any of them.

Is it any wonder, then, that people aren't queuing up to take this option? There's just no recognition of the enormous personal sacrifice colleagues are making to keep this University afloat - or the many sacrifices they've been making for the University for years.

We support reduction in working hours for staff who want it - but we want basic protections for them. For example: if teaching need increases, we want these staff to be able to go back to full-time (if they want to) before any external hiring happens. Management refuse to make this simple promise.
