I just like to give the artist the benefit of the doubt, over the giant company. Now he is smeared across social media for something that wizards likely specified he do, before he has a chance to respond. You could also have messaged Volkan first (maybe you did). I'm curious to see what they say!
Show PostI'm assuming wizards asked for it to look the same? They do own the art, unfortunately, even when the artist feels so attached to it. I wouldn't throw Volkan under the bus so publicly without hearing from wizards first! Sometimes their prompts are very specific.

Have you checked with the AD’s first? There’s been times when I’ve been asked to directly reference past cards. So this could be like, “they specifically asked for this.” In which it’s within Wizards rights as they own the copyright. They should have assigned it to you in the first place though!
