I see this from both sides. The racists/nationalists/evangelicals/etc, want it all erased, because they know it makes them look bad, and it makes people think. There are also too many people on the progressive side who want things erased because it’s offensive, and that’s counterproductive.

Don’t remove ugly history. Don’t censor or ban or change old racist cartoons. Teach our own country’s wrongdoings in the classroom. If we hide it all away, people will forget that it exists, and if we forget it exists, we forget it was ever a problem in the first place.
