fwiw i'm glad flanagan's doctor sleep bridged the gap between the book & the movie. the scene with dan & the bartender is a great way to tie together king's story of recovering from addiction without downplaying what impact that period would have left on his family, especially had he not quit

of course the situation is nuanced - king's protectiveness of the book clearly comes from a very complicated relationship with addiction, kubrick famously treating duvall poorly on set - but it's crazy that scary-ass kubrick cut through king feeling bad about it and ostensibly vindicated wendy
