As Yom Kippur came to a close this evening, I was privileged to join my friend, Ruth Messinger, at a break fast in her home. It was an honor to celebrate this moment of renewal with many of our Jewish neighbors. May it be a year of justice, joy and peace.

I've been lonely all of my life because every time I loved, I got hurt. Now I'm 70 and so alone, lonely and struggling. Only my cats have consistently given me love throughout my life. Sure; they only get lovable when they're in that mood. But I wouldn't have survived loneliness without them.
