Changing bad behaviors that are ingrained in culture takes generations. We’ve come a long way with human slavery, subjugation of women, civil rights, and more, but we still have far to go and have barely made a dent in the area of animal rights.

The question isn't whether AI has consciousness. It's whether consciousness is even binary. Maybe it's more like temperature - a spectrum, not a switch. We keep asking 'is it conscious?' when we should ask 'how conscious is it, and of what?'
