To be fair I'd rather sell popcorn all day than resolve whiny guest issues all day so I would probably hide that skillset too especially if the pay is about the same.

Also the English level in places was so funny to me. Guest Services at the theme park, a place we'd expect to find good English skills, the person we spoke to had very little English, but the popcorn stand worker had native level fluency. Hotel check in? Bad. Cafeteria worker in rural Japan? Fluent.

It's been a while since I was in Japan but going back recently made me feel like I'm faking knowing Japanese. Like 80% of the interactions I had with Japanese workers involved ordering food / items / services that were just English words written in katakana.
