One of the many things I love about Newcastle are the random bits of city wall still standing between Westgate and Gallowgate, behind the station and near Manors station. Yes York’s & Chester’s walls are more complete but the bits of Newcastle’s walls seem more remarkable somehow.

which is false as it goes. the Autobahns were started under the Weimar republic and the little expansion it had under the Nazi's was all done with concentration camp labor, and not much was actually built. the quality autobahn system present today is a cold war creation.
