If you start watching and reacting to Bebop, you’ll gain at least one new patron.
Show PostI’ll go the stereotypical route and say Cowboy Bebop. Everyone recommends that one for someone’s first for good reasons. Easily accessible, deep characters, not 1000 episodes, and dubbed in English so well that even the people who made it say that’s the better way to experience the story.

A couple of suggestions: Chainsaw Man - high quality animation, characters, comedy. One of the best recent shows Neon Genesis Evangelion - massively influential and similar time period to the movies he’s watched and liked.

My all time faves are Neon Genesis Evangelion and Black Lagoon, but they're probably not great gateways (but are both shorter series, at least!) I always hear Cowboy Bebop is a good starting point, but I personally was never able to get into it.
