The novel also implies some degree of psychic ability on Eleanor's part, and that the house is either responding to her and/or she herself is causing the disturbances. That subtext is completely missing from the show!

I wrote a PhD dissertation on the book and I think the coolest thing it says is that you *will have actually have* 100 logical reasons to keep your wealth but none of them are good enough if they're causing suffering and pain and you could be preventing that. Did billionaires produce this?
