I think if the movie wanted us to feel bad for him, they would have him emphatically say ‘yes please cancel the wish.’ But he didn’t. He specified that he still wanted her to love him, just in a more convenient way. Personally I read it as a ‘congratulations, you’re such a bad person you must die’
